Jewelry Design vol.24 – One Year 2018 (a.l.y)
We studied more on the side view of pearl earrings and also three different types of the back of them.
It all begins in the West of Europe, where nobility and royalty wore necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches that are made with pearl. Which caused the demand for pearl jewellery became so high that oyster supplies began to dwindle.
During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, Japanese researchers were looking for techniques to cultivate pearls to increase supply to meet the growing demand for pearls. The first successful and most famous was Kokichi Mikimoto.
There are several forms of pearl, round, drop, oval, button, pear, baroque, keshi and so on.
We will be learning how to draw them by staring with the most common once, the round shape.
The instructor introduced many ways to render pearls, and I chose the way that I like from them. Trial on the colours, usually black pearl will have a peacock effect, and white pearls have all types of tones.
Then we worked on rendering pearl on a piece of jewellery which I designed earlier. For white pearl, we could use a darker paper than grey to bring out the deepness.
