Visa & Residency Requirements

Accademia Riaci welcomes students from all over the world. The diverse background of Accademia Riaci’s students creates a rich multicultural community that promotes the exchange of ideas and viewpoints. The staff is multilingual and ready to assist overseas students wherever they attend our programs.

EU citizens do not have to apply for a study visa to enter Italy, while all non-EU citizens are required by law to obtain a student visa before departing from their home country. Without a valid student visa, students cannot apply to obtain their Italian Residence Permit. The visa application can be a lengthy process, therefore we recommend that students inform themselves of visa procedures in advance. Students must obtain information on visa procedures from the Italian Consulate with jurisdiction over their permanent residence. One of the requirements to apply for a student visa is providing the Italian Consulate with the school’s official Certificate of Enrollment (admission letter).

Please note that the student visa should be obtained prior to leaving one’s home country. It is not possible to apply for such a visa in Italy.

Note: The Certificate of Enrollment and all the other required documents for a student visa application will be sent to the applicant only after receiving the entire payment of the tuition and course fees.

All non-EU students who wish to stay in Italy for more than 90 days must apply for an Italian Residence Permit (“Permesso di Soggiorno”) within 8 working days of their arrival in Italy. The permit will be issued by the police authority in Florence (“Questura di Firenze”). On the first of class, the school will provide relevant information and assistance to all the applicants. However, it is the responsibility of students to comply with current stay requirements and secure the applicable documents.

Health Insurance

Italian law requires that all non-Italian students living in Italy have medical insurance, whether they need a Residence Permit or not. If your health insurance company provides coverage, you will need to provide a confirmation letter attesting that you will be covered for all medical expenses, hospitalization, and repatriation for at least 30,000 euros during your stay in Europe. If your current insurance company does not provide such coverage, you are requested to find an international insurance.

Note: Non-EU students must provide the Italian Consulate with insurance certification to apply for a Student Visa.
