Furniture restoration and fabrication classes began this week! We will learn the techniques under the supervision of a teacher who is still working as a craftsman. He has been restoring furniture that has been handed down for hundreds of years and teaches us very gently and carefully! Right now I am practicing Zogan and carving picture frames. I have never done Zogan before, so I am very happy to be able to actually create a work of art! They also teach us how to use tools that we don’t have in Japan and how to use tools different from those in Japan! I will concentrate on each class so that I can spread the techniques I have learned to my friends in Japan!

今週から家具修復・製作の授業が始まりました！今も職人として働いている先生の元で技術を教わります。数百年前から受け継がれてきた家具などを修復していらっしゃる先生で、とても優しく丁寧に教えてくれます！今は象嵌と絵の額を彫る練習をしています。今まで象嵌をしたことがなかったので実際に作品を製作できることがとても嬉しいです！日本に無い道具や、日本とは異なった道具の使い方なども教えて頂けます！ 習った技術を日本の友人にも広めていけるように一回一回の授業に集中して取り組んでいきたいと思います！
