Art Management Master Course: Transformational Vs. Transactional Leadership, and Copyright
Before Easter holiday, we studied Situational Leadership, this week we focus on Transformational Leadership and Transactional Leadership. First, Transformational Leadership is a style of leadership in which the leaders inspire, empower, and stimulate followers to achieve high levels of performance. Leaders also keep positive expectations for followers and focus on followers’ personal development in order to raise followers’ interest in the project and nurture them to take greater ownership for their work. Transformational Leadership is suitable for leading and working with complex work groups and organizations.
Characteristic of Transformational Leadership:
– Idealized influence
– Inspirational motivation
– Intellectual stimulation
– Individualized consideration
Second, Transactional Leadership is a style of leadership in which the leaders gain compliance from followers through both rewards and punishments.
Transactional leadership emphasizes exchange between leaders and followers there is a contractual deal. Leaders provide rewards, promotion opportunities, honor, etc., to meet the needs and aspirations of followers; and followers obey the commands of leaders and complete the entrusted tasks in return.
Characteristic of Transactional Leadership:
– Contingent reward and management-by-exception
After finishing the topic of Leadership, we go into the next theme, Copyright Law. In this part, we study the history of Copyright Law briefly, and then we read the moral and patrimonial rights, protected works, protection of database, images / photography rights, portrait rights, license, technical protection measures, software development contract and project development contract, and procurement contract.
About my exercise of gallery arts marketing which I have chosen a Hong Kong gallery Fabrik Gallery and their artists as my reference. Now, I finished to design a new annual plan for a gallery and prepared the program with PowerPoint. The annual plan is included to hold 7 personal exhibitions, 3 mixed exhibitions, 1 painting technique workshop, 1 sculpture technique workshop, 1 Shanghai art exchange program, and 1 gallery anniversary party.
About the school exhibition, the first school day after Easter holiday, students who are finishing the course were gathered together to talk about the Final Exhibition. In this exhibition, students from different courses such as shoes making, bag making, jewelry making, glass making, interior design, drawing, etc. are going to present their works.
This week, visual arts student Ahra joins our arts management class to learn how to organize an exhibition. We are brainstorming and exchanging ideas during class, Ahra is sharing her works concept with me while I am telling her the processes and elements of organizing an exhibition.
I visited Rome in my Easter holiday.
And I visited Vatican City too. St. Peter’s Basilica is very magnificent!
