I am an intern photographer and assistant at Accademia Riaci.
I quit my job as a photographer in Japan and came here with my husband who wanted to work at a restaurant in Italy. I took a Gelato Internship Course at Accademia Riaci meanwhile.
After my new challenge, however, I began to think that there was more possibility in the photography field in Italy so I decided to go back to my area of expertise and restart.
I love coffee, so I enjoy visiting coffee bars in and around town.
I hope I can let you know useful and helpful Italian daily-life and school information in my reports.

Internship 10-Internship Course 2016

A month flew away already since the beginning of this year.
I went back to Japan for a week and ate a lot of Japanese food.

Riso in bianco

We had some very cold days in Florence this year, and many people are catching a cold from that. As a matter of fact, I got a cold last week.
If you get a cold in Italy, you should go to the hospital right away.
You can go to the hospital designated by your overseas study insurance, or go to “pronto soccorso” (emergency hospital).
My cold last week wasn’t that severe, so I stayed home to eat and sleep a lot. I cooked some dishes for sick people commonly eaten in Italy.
Riso in bianco is Italian rice porridge. After simmering rice in brodo (broth) well, you simply add Parmesan cheese and olive oil to it. I topped it with some shaved kelp to add a touch of Japanese taste.
Some Japanese people may not like the cheese flavor when they are sick.

I hear lots of people here drink hot wine with black pepper when caught a cold. I was drinking hot wine mixed with blood orange juice (lots of vitamin C!) and cinnamon instead.

Cold with running nose is awful in Italy, because Italian Kleenex is very hard and can hurt your nose. I think Japanese Kleenex is the softest in the world.
If you have a trouble under your nose because of that, try spraying lotion or ethanol lightly onto Kleenex before blowing your nose with it.
For Japanese students with a weak nose, I think it’s better to bring the softest Kleenex from Japan for your nose.
The sore throat spray I bought in Italy worked well and tasted okay.

You can buy supplement to strengthen immunity at drugstores. I drink antiseptic drink with lemon and honey. Some bars make such drink if you request.

In Italy, doctors don’t check whether your cold is influenza or not. If your cold does not cure for a long time, you will then know you have had influenza.
Please be careful and protect yourselves!
