Painting Restoration 45-Internship Course 2015-2017
This is a panel painting restoration. Firstly, I injected special glue into the parts where paint layer was about to peel off. After that, I let it dry with a weight over it so it’s completely attached.
It looked like the material used in the past restoration work was not appropriate, causing some blisters on the surface. I carefully scraped the troubled restoration material off, trying not to hurt the original paint layer underneath. I then placed filler to where necessary, and shaped it by scraping it off. After that was completed, colors were added.
This is a copperplate print restoration. Since this drawing was a miniature, more precise restoration technique was required.
I visited Genova, a port town that is 200km northwest of Florence. The port is very close from the hill area, so the landscape is quite different compared to Florence, which is a basin. In Genova, there is the largest aquarium in Italy. There are 15,000 creatures displayed in 70 fish tanks. You will enjoy a giant fish tank with various kinds of sharks as well as a fish tank with rare sea creatures.
