I’m Marian and I studied Business Administration. Since I was a child I liked to paint and draw, and during my degree I realized my dream. I decided to come to Italy because it is known as the cradle of art. For me it ‘s a big opportunity to be in Italy and to study painting and Drawing.

The small group
This week we are less than the beginning of the course. Some of our classmates went back to their countries because there were here just for the summer course. However we started with a new technic in Alessandro’s class, we work with pen ink and a nib. This technic is difficult at the beginning.

Drawing with nib
The technic with pen ink and nib was very difficult for me, I had used pen ink but with a brush but never with a nib. It is an old technic that many artists used to do, actually we were working with some draws from Rafaelo, and we could appreciate the technic and the dexterity. At the beginning we tried to make the draw using the pen ink and the nib just to practice but then we had to make it with pencil first so then we could use the pen ink and the nib to remake it and do the shadows.

Some homework
For Andy’s class we had to do more generic drawings about 20 different objects. That was so fun for me because I really enjoy drawing how I feel an object rather than I see it. With this exercise I found easer to draw and to express my interpretation of what I touch. Also I realized that with this exercise my hand started to take the pencil and the brush in a different way.

Tarea

Falling in love
This week I also had my first meeting with my teachers to start different project along the semester for the master course. One of the first assignments is to fall in love with my sketchbook. This represent my “inside of my work” because is where I draw anything I can and put on it as many ideas as my mind can have. So I started doing some draws of the Duomo with the blinding technic.

How do I start?
To complement the assignment of fall in love with my sketchbook, I have to choose I place around the city to make it mine. That place would represent my own spot so I can go there and just sit, see what’s happening. I went to my spot and I sit with my sketchbook, while I was there I didn’t know what to do, so I opened my sketchbook and I wrote down “How do I start?” suddenly I started drawing what I was seeing and that how I started falling in love with my sketchbook and my spot.

Painting
For painting activity, this week we had to re-do our painting exercise of the last week. But this time was different because first we analyzed each painting and we had to say two things that were right and two things that were wrong about our own painting, so that meant to accept and let go our painting changing what it was wrong. Then we had to go to our classmate painting and paint on it, changing what it was not working.

Pintando ando

Make space and clean well
The classroom was full of drawings and paintings everywhere that there was not even a tiny space so we can hang on our painting and drawings to analyze them. So the teacher started making some space on the walls and on the shelf so everyone has our own place to put our material and the material of the classroom could be organized and clean.

Haz espacio y limpieza

Around Firenze
Every Friday we go to our art visit around downtown. We have known many places and the history of the city. This picture shows one of the few medieval castells that are left in the city. Right there on the corner we can see a Madonna which is from the XIII century.

Knowing people
The art visit is an opportunity to know the history of Firenze but also to know more people from the school no just the ones in our classes so I thing is a day completely different from the rest of the week due to a whole group of students go to know Firenze and also we know each other a little bit more with our participation.

Conociendo Gente

Gelato
This Friday we went around the city counting the Madonna’s that are around. Teacher made a fun activity so the one how had counted the most Madonna would have a free gelato (paid by the teacher). We went to two gelaterias, the first one is a handmade gelato and the second one is an organic gelato and they do their own cones.

Gelato
