7/7 Day 1
Today is Tanabata, isn’t it? ^^
My student life in Italy has already entered its fourth week. As everyone says, time really flies! I’m finally getting used to the Italian rhythm, and while enjoying every day, this week will mark the halfway point. I’m finally able to purchase a commuter pass this week (although the online site is currently experiencing technical difficulties, so I haven’t been able to purchase it yet, haha). Today, I started working on the sixth ring with a Firenze engraving since arriving in Italy. I’m making progress at an amazing pace, and I feel like I’m building muscle from all the metalworking every day. I’m starting to get a sense of the layout of Florence (even though I’m directionally challenged), and I’m enjoying wandering around the city after school, trying different foods, popping into shops, and feeling like I’m truly embracing freedom. It’s gotten a bit cooler this week, so I’m thinking of visiting the Duomo tomorrow. Tonight, I made tomato and garlic pasta. Italy has such a wide variety of ingredients at the supermarket, and the vegetables and fruits are cheap and delicious! Even simple dishes are incredibly tasty, and strangely enough, I don’t miss Japanese food at all. Thank you for another day of hard work.

イタリアでの学生生活ももう4週目に突入しました。皆さんおっしゃってることですが、ほんとに時間がたつのが早い！ようやくイタリアのリズムにも慣れてきて、毎日楽しく過ごしているうちに、今週が終わると半分が終了することになります。今週に入ってようやく定期券を購入することができそう（と、いうのはオンラインサイトが現在不具合とやらでまだ購入できてないんですが、笑）です。今日はイタリアにきて、6つ目になるFirenze彫を施すリングの制作に入りました。すごいペースでサクサク作っており、毎日彫金三昧で筋力がついた気がします。Firenzeの街の位置関係もだいたいわかってきて（かなり方向音痴ですが）街中を楽しく歩き回る放課後、食べ歩きしたり、お店にふらっと入ったり、なんだか限りなく自由を満喫しています。今週はちょっと涼しくなってきたので、明日はドゥオーモの中に入ってみようかなと思っております。夜はトマトとガーリックのパスタを作ってみました。イタリアはスーパーの食材が本当に豊富で野菜もフルーツも安くておいしいです！簡単な料理もものすごくおいしくて、まったく日本食が恋しくならない不思議。。。今日も一日お疲れさまでした^^

7/8 Day 2
Today, I started creating a beautiful ring in the Florence style, which is one of the reasons I came to Florence to learn metalworking. However, I had a hard time drawing the design on the ring… I’m not proud of it, but I’m not good at recognizing things symmetrically, so if the orientation changes a little, I can’t make the image come together, or rather, I get very confused and it’s very difficult to copy. I think I understand why I’m directionally challenged. But once I finally drew it… it turned out to be a very beautiful design (I think)! I decided to place a stone in the center, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product ^^
For lunch, I went to a trattoria where I could use my meal coupon and had my favorite Calabrese Pizza. After that, I waited for the stone shop to open and went to choose a stone to set in the ring. Considering the price and matching the silver color, I went with my favorite blue-toned London Blue Topaz. The price was around 20 euros. The shop owner kindly explained everything to me, which was very helpful!

今日は私がフィレンツェに彫金を学びに来た理由でもあるフィレンツェ彫りの美しいリングの作成に入りました。ですが、まず図柄をリングに描くという作業から難航…私は自慢じゃないのですが、左右対称にものを認識するのが苦手なようで、ちょっと向きが変わってしまうと像が結べない、というかものすごく混乱して書き写しはとても大変でした。方向音痴の理由がわかる気がしました。しかしやっと描いてみると… とても美しい図柄に（見える？）！中央に石を配置するデザインにし、出来上がりが今からとても楽しみ^^
お昼はミールクーポンが使えるトラットリアへいき、大好きなCalabrese Pizzaを。その後、石屋さんの開店をまって、リングに設置する石を選びに行きました。値段とシルバーカラーにマッチする石、ということでやはり好きなブルー系、ロンドンブルートパーズにしました。お値段は20ユーロほど。お兄さんはいろいろと親切に説明してくれて、助かります！

7/9 Day 3
Today, I continued copying the design of the Florence-style ring. I carefully transferred each of the beautiful designs onto the ring. This time, I decided to place a stone in the center, so I also made a bezel setting for the stone. The method is different from what I’m used to in Japan, which is also interesting! The deep blue stone I purchased yesterday matches the silver color beautifully, and it looks like it will turn out wonderfully!
Speaking of which, I’ve decided to go on my first domestic trip in Italy this weekend! I’m heading to Naples to visit the Amalfi Coast and the ruins of Pompeii, which I’ve always wanted to see. This is one of the highlights of studying abroad! After lunch on this day, I tried a gelato shop I’ve been wanting to visit (called “My Sugar,” but apparently they don’t use sugar). I went with a double scoop of dark chocolate and Florence cream? It had a refreshingly light flavor and was delicious. I eat gelato almost every day, but I feel no guilt at all. Italy is truly a country of fine cuisine!
By the way, I only dye the ends of my hair, but since coming here, my hair has become even drier, so I asked a saleswoman at a pharmacy in the station basement (it has an atmosphere like the Italian version of L’Occitane) for recommendations and purchased a treatment and face cream. They were reasonably priced and feel great to use! When she asked me where I was from, I said, “Japan. I’m studying jewelry and staying in Florence for two months.” She replied that she was thinking of studying perfumery. Perfumery… It sounds very European and wonderful. Speaking of which, there are several wonderful perfume shops in Florence, including the Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy. My stay in Florence, filled with various beautiful things, is very happy.

今日はフィレンツェ彫りのリングの絵柄の書き写しの続きからです。素晴らしく素敵な絵柄を一つ一つリングに移していきます。今回は中央に石を配置することにしたので、覆輪留の石座も併せて作ります。日本とはまた違う作り方で、それもまた面白い！昨日購入した深いブルーの石がシルバーカラーにマッチして素敵な仕上がりになりそうです！
そうそう、週末は初のイタリア国内旅行に行くことにしました！一度行ってみたかったアマルフィ海岸周辺とポンペイの遺跡を見にナポリへ。これも留学生活のだいご味ですね。
この日はお昼のあと、試してみたかったジェラート屋さん（My sugarという名前ですが、お砂糖は使用していないとのこと）こちらに来てはまっているダークチョコレートとフィレンツェのクリーム？のダブルで。とてもさっぱりとした味わいでおいしい。毎日のようにジェラートを食べますが全くの罪悪感なし。さすが美食の国、イタリア！
余談ですが、私は毛先だけをカラーリングしているのですが、こちらに来て、髪の毛がさらにぱさぱさになったので、駅地下の薬局（雰囲気はロクシタンのイタリア版のような）で、お姉さんにおすすめを聞いて、トリートメントとフェイスクリームを購入。程よい価格で、使い心地もとてもよいです！どこから来たの？と聞かれたので、日本です、ジュエリーを勉強してフィレンツェに2か月滞在しているの。と言ったら、彼女は香水学を学ぼうと思っているといいました。香水学・・・ヨーロッパという感じでとても素敵でいいなと思いました。そういえば、フィレンツェには、サンタマリアノベッラ薬局をはじめ、素敵な香水のお店がいくつかあります。様々な美しいものであふれるフィレンツェの滞在はとても幸せです。

7/10 Day 4
Today, I will continue working on the Florentine engraved ring that I started making the other day. Following the pattern I copied, I will make cuts with a jigsaw and a file. This is quite difficult… It’s a lot of fun, but it requires concentration. I will work diligently on the cutting process from the morning. In Japan, we don’t concentrate on filing and cutting with a jigsaw to this extent, so I am satisfied that I have improved my skills here. Classes start at 9 a.m. and go until 1 p.m., which is a bit long, but there’s a coffee break around 11 a.m. I’ll have a cappuccino at a café where I can use the drink coupons I get from school (RIACI students and teachers often go there). I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can awkwardly order in Italian, haha. Italian coffee is truly delicious. The smooth taste of milk combined with the bitterness of coffee is irresistible. I bought some latte powder at the supermarket near my house, and even that was delicious. It’s heaven for coffee lovers.

I worked hard and concentrated today, so I wanted to have a nice lunch. Thanks to my classmate R’s research (which is really wonderful), we went to a restaurant on the rooftop of a small, cute hotel near Ponte Vecchio. Truffles seem to be a specialty here, as the staff were wearing T-shirts with the logo “I ♡ Truffle” (I love truffles). The restaurant offers a breathtaking view of the Arno River and the Boboli Gardens. The truffle pasta and sparkling wine were delicious! I also tried steak tartare for the first time in Italy, and it was delicious with truffles, capers, and just the right amount of salt. You mix it with a raw egg and eat it.
The staff were also very friendly. When I mentioned that I’ve been in Italy for two months, they joked, “Then you should study Italian!” So I tried to show off the Italian I knew (probably at a toddler’s level), and they laughed… Haha. I was serious, though…

今日は先日から製作を開始したフィレンツェ彫のリングの続きを行います。書き写した絵柄にそって、糸鋸やヤスリで切り込みを入れていきます。これがかなりの難易度・・・とても楽しいのですが、集中が必要。朝からもくもくと切り出し作業を行います。日本ではここまでヤスリ掛けとイトノコの切り出し作業を集中して行わないので、こちらですっかり腕を上げたのでは、と満足。授業は朝の9時に始まり、13時までとちょっと長めなのですが、11時ごろにコーヒー休憩が入ります。学校でもらうドリンククーポンが使えるカフェ（RIACIの生徒や先生はよくいっている）でカプチーノを。最近ようやくイタリア語でぎこちなくオーダーができるように、笑　イタリアのコーヒーは本当においしいです。ミルクとのまろやかな味わいの中にコーヒーの苦みが、たまりません。家の近くのスーパーでラテのパウダーを買ってみましたがそれすらもおいしい。コーヒー好きには天国ですね。

今日は集中して頑張ったので、お昼はちょっと素敵に行きたいな、ということで、またクラスメートのRさんのリサーチ（これが本当にすばらしい）で、ポンテベッキオの近くの小さなかわいらしいホテルのルーフトップにあるレストランへ。トリュフが名物なのか、店員さんはI ♡ Truffle (トリュフ大好き)とロゴが入っているTシャツを着ています。アルノ川とボーボリ庭園が見渡せる絶景スポット。そしてトリュフパスタとスプマンテがとてもおいしかったです！あと、ステーキタルタルもイタリアで初めて食べましたが、トリュフとケッパー、程よい塩分がきいていてとても美味。生卵を和えながらいただきます。
店員さんもとってもフレンドリー。二か月イタリアにいるんです、と言ったら、じゃあイタリア語を勉強しないとね？と言われたので、知っている限りのイタリア語（おそらく1歳児レベル）を披露して笑われました・・・笑　真面目に言ったんですがね・・・

7/11 Day 5
I decided to take advantage of the long weekend to go on a trip to Naples! My classmate R decided to join me, which made it even more fun. After doing a little work in the morning, I booked a train online for a convenient time and headed to the station! As usual, Santa Maria Novella Station was crowded with people. It seemed like there were more locals than usual, probably because it was the weekend. The train number and platform are displayed on the electronic board inside the station. It’s very easy to understand, but the platform for my train to Naples took a while to be decided, haha. Finally, it was displayed, and I boarded the train. One of the slightly strange things about Italy is that some train seats are set up by default for four people facing each other… In Japan, families or friends might sit facing each other, but here, such seats exist and are fixed in place. I had mistakenly purchased the ticket for the wrong date, so I couldn’t change the seat assignment at the last minute and ended up sitting in a facing seat. Still, it was a comfortable train ride, and before I knew it, I had fallen asleep and arrived in Naples. It was my first time in Naples, so I was a bit nervous, and I had booked a hotel near the station for convenience, but the road from the station to the hotel… It reminded me of the desolate atmosphere of Cairo City in Egypt. I was glad it was daytime! I met up with R, who had arrived earlier, and we went to a seafood restaurant I had wanted to try (located in a high-end residential area near the sea). The restaurant was supposed to open at 7:30 PM, but when we arrived, it didn’t feel like it was open at all. They told us in Italian that it was still too early, so we decided to wait at a nearby café… It was a lovely café with a nice seaside atmosphere. We felt completely at ease there, and since it was the right time for dinner, we went to the restaurant. We ordered the seafood fritters, clam pasta, and squid ink risotto that we had wanted to try, and everything was delicious! We were really impressed and told R that we were glad we came. The next day, we had booked a tour of Amalfi and Pompeii in the morning, so we took a taxi back to the hotel and decided to rest.

ロングウィークエンドを利用して週末はナポリに旅行へ行くことにしました！クラスメートのRさんもジョインすることになり、さらに楽しさ倍増。午前中はちょっと仕事をしてから、程よい時間の列車をオンラインで予約して、いざ駅へ！サンタマリアノヴェッラ駅はいつものようにたくさんの人でごった返しています。特に週末とあって、どちらかというとローカルの人が多いようなイメージ。駅構内の電光掲示版に列車番号とホームが表示されます。とても分かりやすいですが、私のナポリ行きの列車のホームがなかなか決まりません、笑　やっと表示されて、列車に乗り込みます。 イタリアのちょっと不思議な点は、列車の席がデフォルトで四人向かい合わせになっている席があること…日本だと家族や友達どうして向かい合わせにしたりしますが、こちらではそういう席があり、しかも固定で動かない。私はいつものおっちょこちょいで日付を間違って購入したので、急遽変更で席指定ができなかったため、向かい合わせの席にすわることに。とはいえ快適な列車の旅で、途中爆睡するうちに、ナポリにつきました。初めてのナポリ、ちょっと緊張もしてたので、利便性を考え駅近のホテルを予約してましたが、駅を降りてホテルに向かう道が。。。ちょっとエジプトのカイロシティを思い出すような荒れ果てた雰囲気。昼間でよかったかも！と思いました、笑　先に到着していたRさんに合流し、行ってみたかったシーフードのお店（海の近くの高級住宅地にある）に行ってみました！オープンは7時半となってましたが、店につくと全くオープンな雰囲気ではありません。イタリア語で、まだ早いよ的なことを言われたので、近くのカフェで一杯飲みながら待つことに・・・海辺の雰囲気の良い素敵なカフェです。そこですっかりいい気分になり、ディナーも程よい時間だったので、お店へ。食べてみたかったシーフードのフリットやボンゴレパスタ、イカ墨のリゾットなどを頼みましたが、どれもすごくおいしい！本当に感激で、来てよかったね！とRさんと話しておりました。次の日は、朝からアマルフィイとポンペイのツアーを申し込んでいたので、タクシーでホテルまで帰って、ゆっくりと休むことに。

7/12 Day 6
Today, we drove 1-2 hours from Naples to the Amalfi Coast and Positano. This area is famous for its beautiful coastline and charming houses, which I had only seen in photos before. Positano feels like a mountain village, but it became known among celebrities after an American writer stayed there for the summer in the 1900s. Anyway, I was excited from the morning, and we were picked up at the hotel where we gathered! We found this local tour called World Tour, and after Amalfi, we were going to visit the ruins of Pompeii, so it was a packed schedule. We rented a van for about 12 people and set off on the tour! The drive to Pompeii with the port in view was a real pleasure on such a nice day. After about an hour and a half, we arrived in the town of Sorrento (yes, the setting for the song “Return to Sorrento”). We stopped at a place that was both a limoncello factory and a souvenir shop, where we had a free shot (though it was just a sample) in the morning. The shop was filled with cute souvenirs made with local lemons, spices, olive oil, and more.

After taking some photos, we drove on to the Amalfi Coast.
The beauty of the sea was breathtaking! We took photos in Positano and then strolled around the town on the Amalfi Coast and had lunch. I can’t wait to come back for a longer stay and relax by the sea! I’m already planning my next trip… lol

今日はナポリから車で1－2時間先のアマルフィイ海岸やポジターノへ。写真でしか見たことのなかった美しい海岸とかわいらしい家々が有名なエリアです。ポジターノは山間の村という感じですが、1900年代にアメリカの作家が避暑で滞在したことから、有名人界隈で知られるようになったとか？とにかく朝からワクワクで、集合場所のホテルでピックアップ！ワールドツアーという現地ツアーで見つけ、アマルフィイのあとはなんとあのポンペイ遺跡へ行くことになっており、盛沢山です。さっそく総勢12人ほどでバンを貸し切り、ツアーへ！　ポンペイの港を見ながら天気のいいドライブはそう快感があります。1時間半ほどでソレントという町（はい、あの帰れソレントへ、という歌の舞台でしょうか？）につき、レモンチェッロの工場兼お土産屋さんのような場所で、朝からフリーショット（といってもお試しですが）。名産のレモンを使ったかわいいお土産やスパイス、オリーブオイルなどが並びます。

そのあと少々写真等をとったあと、さらにアマルフィイ海岸へ向かってドライブ。
海のきれいさといったら！本当にもううっとりするレベルです。ポジターノで写真を撮って、その後アマルフィイ海岸の街で散策やランチをしました。次は長期滞在でのんびり海に入ったりして過ごせたら最高だ！と早くも次の計画が…笑

After that, we visited the famous ruins of Pompeii. It is said that this ancient city was built in the 6th century BC, but it was later covered in magma and ash from a nearby volcanic eruption and forgotten. However, since the 18th century, archaeologists have been excavating the site, and even today, only 70% of the excavation has been completed! Just walking around, you can see how vast it is. If you want to see everything properly, it apparently takes about 5–6 days, with 8 hours per day.
After the impressive Pompeii ruins, we returned to Naples, had a light dinner at the station, and went to bed!

その後かの有名なポンペイ遺跡へ。紀元前6世紀に建設されたといされる古代都市ですが、その後近隣の火山の噴火でマグマと灰に覆われ忘れ去られてしまった都市だということです。が、18世紀以降当時の考古学者たちにより発掘が進められ、今日にいたってもなお、70％しかその発掘が終わっていないとのことなのです！歩いてみるだけで、いかに広大なのかがわかります。ちゃんと見ようと思うと、一日8時間、5－6日ほど必要だそうです。
見ごたえたっぷりのポンペイのあとは、ナポリに戻ってきて、駅前で軽い夕食ののち、寝てしまいました！

7/13 Day 7
Today, we decided to skip the tour and explore Naples on our own. First, we wanted to try some Neapolitan coffee for breakfast, so we headed to a nice cafe. Naples is a very interesting city. As you walk from the somewhat run-down station toward the seaside, you can see beautiful buildings everywhere. We strolled along the picturesque seaside, walked through the charming Sant’Alchia district, and then entered the café! Naples coffee seems a bit stronger than Florence’s, but it’s delicious when paired with sweets! There’s never enough room in my stomach, haha.
After that, I enjoyed shopping and strolled through the streets of the city, and for lunch, I thought I’d go to a famous pizza place! But the line was so long (not like in Japan where people line up in a single file, but more like a crowd gathering, haha) that I chickened out and gave up, lol.
I had a seafood lunch at a nearby café, then headed back to the hotel, enjoying some more shopping along the way. Wow, Naples is truly a city of fine cuisine. It’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again! From Florence, it’s about a three-hour direct train ride, but I think it’d be better to stay a few nights to enjoy the city and visit nearby small towns like Sorrento or Amalfi. Even then, there wasn’t enough time, and I’d love to plan another trip just for southern Italy.

今日はツアーは入らず、ナポリ観光をしようということで、まずは朝ご飯にナポリ的なコーヒーを味わいたいねと素敵なカフェへ。ナポリはとても面白い街で、荒廃している感じの駅前から海辺のほうへ進むと、とても美しい建造物が随所にみられる、ということがあります。風光明媚な海辺を散策したり、素敵なエリア（サンタルチア地区）などを散歩して、カフェにはいりました！ナポリコーヒーは、フィレンツェより少し濃いような気がしますが、スィーツとあわせると美味！胃袋がいくつあっても足りません、笑
その後ショッピングを楽しみ市内の通りをぶらぶらしながら、お昼はピザの有名店へ！と思ったのですが、あまりの列（日本のように一列ではなく、何となく人が群がる感じ、笑）にひるみあきらめました、爆笑
近くのカフェでシーフードランチして、そのままホテルへ向かいつつ、途中またショッピング等を楽しみ、帰路につきます。いやーナポリは本当に美食の街。また是非訪れたい場所でした！Firenzeからは直行列車で3時間ほどで行けますが、日帰りよりも数泊して街を楽しみ、近郊の小さな街（ソレントやアマルフィイなど）にも立ち寄るのが良いかなと思いました！それでもまだまだ時間が足りなくて、南イタリアの旅、というのもまた別途行きたいくらいでした。
