Restoration of Paintings Short Course (n.3)

Restoration of Paintings blogHaving drawn the Madonna in Andrea del Sarto’s ‘Madonna Delle Arpie’ (1517), I chose to focus on a different figure for my watercolour painting.
Restoration of Paintings blogMy painting in progress. I had to start again on my painting having made a mistake in my initial attempt.
Restoration of Paintings blogElena showed us some photographs of paintings that she had restored. Each photo documents a different stage of the restoration process.
Restoration of Paintings blogI continued working on restoring the copy of Carpaccio’s painting.
Restoration of Paintings blogMy palette. I’ve learnt that I need to use more pigment and a small amount of paint to ensure that the brushstrokes are neat when filling in the blank parts of the painting.
Restoration of Paintings blogA finished section of the painting.
Restoration of Paintings blogI enjoy studying in Elena’s studio as it gives me an insight into how she works. My classes are often punctuated with conversations about our experiences of studying restoration of paintings and living in Florence.
Restoration of Paintings blogOne evening I watched the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo. It’s one of my favorite spots in Florence because it offers an incredible view of the city. Plus, there’s live music which creates a great atmosphere.
Restoration of Paintings blogI also went to the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore and climbed to the top of the Bell Tower, where there are spectacular views of the city and of the Duomo.
Restoration of Paintings blogFor dinner one evening, some friends and I got steak Florentine! We went to a lovely restaurant called Trattoria L’Oriuolo which does a discount for students at Accademia Riaci.
