Day 1
Cutting out earrings
Today I started working on earrings with an openwork-like pattern that I started working on at the end of last week. First, I chose my favorite pattern among several prepared, traced the picture, stuck it on a silver plate, and then cut it with a thread saw. In Japan, I have not been working with a thread saw so much recently, but here I feel like it is the tool I use the most.
I cut out beautiful pictures and carefully shape them with a file.

今日は先週の終わりから取り組み始めた透かし彫りのような模様の入ったピアス。まずいくつか用意されているうちの好きなパターンを選び、絵をトレースしてシルバーの板に張り付けてから、糸鋸で切ります。日本では糸鋸（いとのこぎり）の作業は最近あまりしていませんでしたが、こちらにきて一番使っている道具が糸鋸なきがします。美しい絵を切り出し、ヤスリで丁寧に形を整えていきます。

Then, the cut out silver plate is fixed on the file stand, and the back is tapped with an arrowhead to make a beautiful dent. They can carve it at the end or leave it as it is.

その後、ヤニ台に切り出したシルバーの板を固定し、裏を矢坊主でたたき、美しいくぼみを作ります。最後に彫りを入れてもいいし、そのままでもいいそうです。

Sunset of Duomo
Today I had an appointment to have dinner at night with a friend who is visiting Florence, so I came back home once and then came back to the center (Centro) for a sunset drink. We went to a small bar with a great view of the Duomo (or rather, the rooftop of a small hotel). (or rather, the rooftop of a small hotel) with a spectacular view of the Duomo! Just as the bells were ringing, we enjoyed a wonderful Florence sunset ^^.

今日はフィレンツェに遊びに来ている友達と夜ご飯をする約束があったので、いったん家に戻ってからまた中心地（チェントロ）まで来て、サンセットドリンク。ドゥオーモが見える絶景のこじんまりしたバー？（というか小さなホテルの屋上）をホテルで教えてもらい、行ってきました！ちょうど鐘の音が鳴り響き、すばらしいフィレンツェの日没を楽しみました^^

Day2
Today is a holiday in Florence, St. John’s Day, so school is out. I decided to wander around the city with a friend who was just visiting. However, the daytime temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius, so I spend the morning working at home (I work remotely from Italy, lol) and take a nap to relax, then go to Centro around noon. I went to a popular sandwich store (All’Antico Viniaio)! There was a huge line, but the waiter was so efficient that it didn’t take long for us to get our turn. I forgot to take a picture, but I had the sandwich with zucchini, truffle cream and Florentine salami. I had it with apero spritz. It was delicious and I finished it in no time!

今日はフィレンツェは、聖ヨハネの日という祝日なので、学校はお休み。ちょうど遊びに来ている友人と、街をぶらぶらすることにしました。しかし日中は30度を優に超える暑さなので、午前中は家で仕事（リモートワークなのでイタリアから働いています、笑）したり、昼寝してのんびりすごし、お昼くらいからチェントロへ。おいしいと人気のサンドイッチのお店（All’Antico Viniaio）に行ってみました！すごい行列でしたが、きびきびと客裁きをするお兄さんがいて、あっという間に順番に。写真を撮り忘れてしまいましたが、私はズッキーニとトリュフクリーム、フィレンツェサラミの入ったサンドイッチを。アペロスプリッツと一緒に食べました。おいしくて、あっという間に完食！

Once it cooled off, we took a walk along the river and browsed the stores. Everywhere in Florence is beautiful and just walking around is really fun ^^ If you get thirsty, enjoy an apero spritz at a cafe with a great view, and before you know it, night has fallen. Sunset is around 9 o’clock. It seems there was a fireworks display that day, but I missed it…

涼しくなったら、川沿いを散歩したり、お店をのぞいて歩きました。フィレンツェはどこも街が美しく、歩いているだけでも本当に楽しい^^　のどが渇いたら、景色のいいカフェでアペロスプリッツを楽しみ、気が付くと夜になっています。日没は9時くらいです。この日は花火があったみたいですが、見逃しました…

Day3
Well, to get back on track, I’m back to jewelry making today!　We have run out of the plates that we melted down to make sterling silver before, so we are going to make new silver again by mixing sterling silver whiskers (mashed silver) and copper. The reason for mixing copper is to make it hard enough for processing, but it is really hot to melt, lol, so I will do it first thing in the morning.

さて、気を取り直して、今日からまたジュエリーメイキングです！　前に純銀を溶かして作った板がなくなったので、新しくまた純銀のささぶき（つぶつぶ）と銅を混ぜて銀を作ります。銅を混ぜるのは、加工に適した硬さにするためですが、溶かすのが本当に暑い、笑なので、朝一でやります。

During the class, we talked about yesterday’s fireworks, and the teacher showed us a video he had taken of the fireworks. It was an amazing firework display, just like the Sumida River!　They were seen from around Piazzale Michelangelo.

葉っぱのピアス、彫りだしのピアスがだいたい完成したので、次はシールリングのような、ボリューミーなリングを作ります。シルバーの板を組み立てて、作るデザインですが、正確さが求められるため、しっかりと大きさをはかって作ります。全部で4つのパーツからなるリング、先生がイラストを描きながら説明してくれます。
途中、昨日の花火の話になり、先生がとった花火の動画を見せてくれました。隅田川ばりのすごい花火でした！　ミケランジェロ広場のあたりから見たそうです。

Day4
Seal Rings
After a long night’s sleep yesterday, we are full of energy today. We continue to make seal rings. In order to make them fit perfectly, we look at them carefully with a loupe and our eyes, and file them down without any gaps. More serious than ever!　I feel like my filing and itonoko work skills have improved. It’s a happy scream to be so sturdy.
Once the boards are perfectly aligned, each part is welded (brazed) in place. A lot of large pieces of brazing metal (welding alloy) are placed on the board. After brazing, we put them in dilute sulfuric acid to remove burnt stains, etc. Italian acid removes stains in a matter of seconds. The reason for this is that it is constantly heated (our interpreter told us). (The interpreter told me.)
The welding is done and the ring is ready… Now I will file the inside diameter to fit my finger size. I am very much looking forward to the completion!

シールリング各種
昨日は連日の夜更かしの疲れで、爆睡して、今日は元気いっぱい。引き続き、シールリングの作成を続けます。ぴったりと合わせて作るため、ルーペや目でしっかり見て、スキマなくヤスリで削っていきます。いつになく真剣！　ヤスリ掛けとイトノコ作業の腕が上達した気がします。ここまでがっつりとは嬉しい悲鳴ですが、笑
板がぴったり合ったら、各パーツを溶接（ロー付け）していきます。大き目にきったロー（溶接用の合金）をたくさんおいていきます。ロー付けのあと、希硫酸に入れて焦げ付いた汚れ等を取るのですが、イタリアの酸はあっという間に汚れが落ちます。なぜかというと、常に加熱しているからだとうです。（通訳さんが教えてくれました）
溶接が終わって、リングの全容が・・・　あとは自分の指のサイズに合わせて内径をヤスリで削っていきます。完成がとても楽しみ！

Lunch
Since I came to Italy, I have been craving for vegetables and fruits, probably because I am always exposed to strong sunlight!　Today I had lunch at a restaurant where I could use the meal coupon I got at school. (Lunch is take-out only, apparently.) The tomatoes were delicious.

イタリアに来てから、いつも強い日の光を浴びているからか、やたら野菜やフルーツが食べたくなります！　今日は学校でもらったミールクーポンが使えるというお店でランチ。（ランチはテイクアウトのみだそうです）たっぷりのトマトがおいしかったです。

この日は、アートビジットの日でしたが、私はスペインの親戚に会いに行くためお休みしました。灼熱のスペインへ・・・

Day 6&7
I went to Ibiza Island in Spain because some of my friends were coming from Japan and my relatives were living there. The island is famous for music events, but it is also a resort area with beautiful sea and rich nature. The entire island is registered as a World Heritage site. It is said that the Phoenicians originally built a harbor in Ibiza, and the Phoenicians used the island as an important port in the Mediterranean trade at that time. Because of its location and environment, Ibiza is a very interesting island with a diverse culture, as it was inhabited by various ethnic groups such as Carthaginians, Muslims, Romans, and others. Because of its proximity to the sea, the seafood is exceptionally delicious! Especially crustaceans such as squid and shrimp, as well as rice dishes, which are a delight for Japanese people. Shopping is also fun, and the city is really cute! I couldn’t help but look around the stores, and I found myself walking around all the time, lol.

友人が数人日本からくるのと、もともと親戚が住んでいるためスペインのイビザ島にいきました。音楽イベントで有名な島ですが、れっきとしたリゾート地でもあり、きれいな海と、自然が豊かな場所です。また、島全体が世界遺産として登録もされているそうです。もともとは、フェニキア人がイビザ島に港を作ったのが始まりだといわれており、そのフェニキア人は当時の地中海貿易において、イビザ島を重要な港として利用していたそうです。イビザ島はそのロケーション、環境から、カルタゴやイスラム人、ローマ人などそのほか多様な民族がくらしていたことから、多様な文化を持っている大変面白い島です。海の近くだけあって、シーフードのおいしさは格別！特にいかやエビなどの甲殻類、そして日本人には嬉しいお米の料理もありました。またショッピングも楽しく、街の作りが本当にかわいい！お店をのぞかずにはいられない場所で、気が付いたらずっと歩き回っていました、笑

In the evening, we went out to the coast to see the beautiful Mediterranean sunset. It was a relaxing atmosphere, there were many families, and it was nice to see people from all walks of life enjoying the summer sunset.

夕方は、海岸のほうに出て、きれいは地中海の夕日を見ました。リラックスできる雰囲気で、家族連れもたくさんいて、いろんな人達が楽しんで夏の夕暮れをすごしているのが素敵でした。
