Villa Medici at Poggio a Caiano

The Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano , is one of the most famous Medici villas and is located in the municipality of Poggio a Caiano ( Prato ).
The exterior of the villa has kept Sangallo’s original Renaissance project fairly intact, with the exception of the two twin stairways leading to the terrace, erected in the early nineteenth century to replace the original straight ones perpendicular to the body of the villa, and that blends the lesson of the classics (in particular Vitruvius ) with characteristic elements of Tuscan rural noble architecture and other innovative features.
