It takes about 40 minutes to walk to the school. If you take a streetcar, it takes 7 stops to the last stop, and from there it is a 10-minute walk. The tram is very convenient because you can ride the streetcar by touch payment with a credit card, in addition to buying a ticket or commuter pass.

On the first day, April 2, after the orientation, a Japanese interpreter gave us a tour of the Central Market and the city, followed by a welcome lunch with the foreign class members. The Central Market is the kitchen of Florentine citizens. The first floor is a food market and the second floor is a food court. It was very crowded.

Gelateria. It is close to the school. The taste of ingredients is alive, fresh, and the sweetness suits Japanese people. You should visit there.

Cooking practice started with Tuscan cuisine. The teacher is Mr. Francesco. The class is in Italian, but the interpreter and Francesco’s assistant are Japanese, so you don’t have to worry.

There is a large supermarket at the nearest station to the inn. It has a wide variety of goods, vegetables and meat are tasty, and the price is not so expensive. There are also cafes and bars, so you will never get bored even if you stay there for a long time.

Italian class in all-Italian language. The teacher sometimes explains in English and my classmates help me. The teacher asked me, “Capito, do you understand? I wonder if there will ever come a time when I won’t say, “No, non ho capito, no, I don’t understand” (laugh).

I ate sandwiches with my classmates. A whole pig was grilled savory and sandwiched with tomatoes and basil. The other one was at Trattoria Acquadei near Doumo Church. A Japanese is the owner-chef and my classmate took me there. It was a trattoria loved by the locals where we could taste Tuscan regional cuisine with the best ingredients.

We visited the Medici Chapel and the Uffizi Gallery. Tired of walking, my friend and I went home for a pizza near the museum.
