Taught in Italian Only
The ceramics facilities at Accademia Riaci in Florence, Italy are excellent resources for your artistic and technical development. In the Ceramics Area, equipment is available for wheelwork, mold making, and slip casting projects, as well as large kilns for hand building and sculpture. Due to the complex nature of materials and processes involved in this course, the curriculum incorporates aspects of chemistry, state-of-the art technology, and kiln and furnace design / construction. You are encouraged to use a wide range of materials and methods that have been applied in both traditional and contemporary contexts. This program enhances the curriculum by providing an extensive of visiting artists, workshops, and guest lectures. In addition, our active visiting artists program provides basic course students with numerous opportunities to experience the work of a wide variety of professional artists. We have always encouraged conceptual and formal diversity in the ceramic area. As a faculty, our work, our experience, and our varying interests reflect this diversity. The ceramic faculty believes that communication and critical dialog between disciplines is essential to a broader understanding of the arts.
