Information Center
The academy has a Student Information Office and an International Information Center, available to guide and assist students with any concerns. Students will be assisted with course selection, questions regarding life in Florence, where and how to shop for necessary items, transportation, residencial permit, insurance, visa, banking, tuition payment procedures, housing, language problems, school events, academic policies and regulations, educational planning and any related concerns. Counseling and Advice are always available upon request - be sure to make an appointment.

Visto per gli studenti
Per studiare in Italia per periodi più lunghi di 3-6 mesi è richiesto un visto dalla maggior parte dei paesi. Gli studenti possono avere informazioni riguardo alla procedura per il visto dal più vicino Consolato Italiano. Sebbene la procedura per il visto cambi di paese in paese, Vi preghiamo di considerare che sono necessari 30-60 giorni per avere un visto per studenti. Accademia Riaci fornirà agli studenti un “Certificato di iscrizione” che dovrebbe essere considerato dal Consolato locale come un visto per studenti.
Nota: un certificato di iscrizione non può essere rilasciato da Accademia Riaci prima di aver ricevuto il pagamento della quota di iscrizione.

Assicurazione per malattie ed incidenti
Nel caso uno studente straniero non abbia nessuna assicurazione medica internazionale è obbligatorio secondo la legge italiana avere un’assicurazione per le malattie e gli incidenti.
Accommodation
Accademia Riaci has several "Student Flats" (shared apartments) reserved for the academy's students. Flats come with one or several rooms per apartment, and one room may be shared by students of the same sex, or reserve for a single student.
Location
They are located in either a walkable distance or within a 10 - 15 min. bus ride away from the school campus, and may come with or without a host family. The definite location of the flat will be communicated to each student upon enrollment, by a week prior to the course commencement date.
Facilities
Bathrooms and kitchens will be shared with your flat mates. Basic cutlery, pots, pans will be available for student use.
Stay
Students are allowed to stay at the Student Flats up to 3 months. If their course exceeds this period (Basic, One-year, Semester, and Master Courses), the school will assist students to find a local apartment according to their likings and budget, while they stay at the Student Flats.

Scholarship
Although there are currently no government funds or endowments available for financial assistance, past students have consistently received financial assistance from private educational loan companies. You may also apply for scholarship directly from Accademia Riaci.
Scholarship by Accademia Riaci
Students may apply for scholarship from anywhere in the world. They may be eligible to receive coverage of the whole tuition or partially. To apply, please send the following items to admission office or your nearest information center.
Required Documents For Scholarship

- 1-2 pages statement objectives (Italian or English)
- Portfolio of 12 Art works (preferably on CD-ROM)*If you don't have any experience in the field which you are applying for, it is not necessary to submit.
- A portfolio description sheet listing each piece by number, size, medium and the date completed. *
Preferred Documents
- 2-3 recommendation letters from faculty, work supervisor, or any authority with a close relationship, if available.
**You MUST write which course you are applying for. In case you don't write course name, your documents cannot be sent to the selection committee for scholarship.
Deadline
By three months prior to the course starting date.
*The number of students who may be accepted is limited. Please submit the Required Documents as quickly as possible.

Quanto durano i programmi?
[Basic, One-Year, & Master Courses] 9-12 months, depending on your course.
[Semester Program] 4-5 months, depending upon the Semester attended.

Students may choose the length of the Summer Programs (Excluding The Pre-College Summer Credit Program) that best fits their schedule and needs.
Quando scade l’iscrizione?
Ogni programma ha una scadenza di iscrizione diversa. Per i corsi di un semestre e di un anno dobbiamo ricevere il modulo d’iscrizione e la quota da pagare almeno due mesi prima dell’inizio del corso. Per il corso estivo, 30 giorni prima. Se il tempo per l’iscrizione e’gia’ scaduto ti preghiamo di contattare i nostri uffici: potrebbe esserci ancora un posto disponibile nel corso che desideri.

Do I have to take an Italian Class?
No, you don't have to take an Italian class. However, if you take courses offered only in Italian (Basic Course, Apprenticeship in One-Year/Master or Ceramics in Master, Internship in Italian company), sufficient Italian language proficiency is a must.
Ricevo un diploma alla fine del corso?
Si, dopo aver frequentato con successo il corso.
Quanti crediti valgono i corsi?
Gli studenti frequentano una serie di corsi in ogni programma accademico. Tutti i programmi semestrali dell’Accademia Riaci valgono da 15 a 30 crediti. Durante l’estate gli studenti prendono 6 crediti basati sul programma accademico.
Devo avere una cartella d’opere di presentazione?
Per il Corso di Master devi presentare una cartella d’opere per essere ammesso alla specializzazione. Se sei uno studente trasferito da un altro corso devi presentarla.
Quante assenze sono ammesse?
Le assenze non sono concesse. Per prendere il diploma e’ necessaria la frequenza almeno all’80 % delle lezioni.
Come saranno spediti alla mia Università i miei voti ed i miei lavori?
Spediremo tutto all’indirizzo che ci fornirai.
Quando riceverò il riconoscimento della frequenza alla scuola?
Entro due mesi dalla fine del semestre.
Come arrivo a scuola??
A piedi o con gli autobus. Non esiste la metropolitana a Firenze.
It is the teaching method different than that in my country?
The teaching method in Italy may be very different from those in your home country. This is a part of the experience of being a student in Italy. In each country the educational system has its own characteristics. Often students meet together in small groups to study together. Joining one of these study groups is quite easy and will be very helpful in making the transition into a new school system.
Who are the local representatives?
The Local Representatives work to inform students a school information. They are motivated by the opportunity to work with young people from other nations, and they have a true cultural and educational interest.

For summer cooking program, you will stay in a shared Student Flat.

The school has several Student Flats (shared appartments) reserved for student use, insted of a dormitory.

Financial Information
Are scholarships available?
Yes. Scholarship is available from private loan companies, or Directly from Accademia Riaci, regardless of your nationality or current residance. Please read below and send the required documents to the Admissions Office or the International Tokyo Office, by three months prior to your course commencement date.

Accademia Riaci da aiuti finanziari ?
Non ci sono fondi governativi che possono dare assistenza finanziaria. Comunque gli studenti possono avere assistenza finanziaria da aziende private di prestito.
Can I work in Italy even if I am NOT Italian?
According to Italian law, foreign students are allowed to work part time in Italy only if it is less than 80 hours per week. Language proficiency in Italian is a must.
Practical Information
Do I need a visa to study in Florence?
Yes. Accademia Riaci or our information center will send you visa information and instructions once you have been accepted into the program. All students can apply through the Consulate in person regardless of place of residence in your country. Because all consulates differ, it is very important that you call the consulate as early as possible to ensure that the process goes smoothly for you. Give yourself ample time because you will not be able to attend the program without a valid visa.
How can I access my email in Florece?
You may want to try to open free, web based email account like hotmail or yahoo mail, that you can access freely from anywhere in the world. Internet café are easily found throughout the city.
How should I take money in Italy?
Below are some recommend options :
1.) Cash: You should bring some cash changed into EURO prior to your departure, for unexpected expenses and enough to get you throught the first few days.
2.) ATM / Bancomat cash cards: Bank Cash cards with CIRRUS, Plus or Visa will access to your bank account on machines with these symbols. You need to memorize your PIN (Personal identification Number) in order to access you account.
3.) Credit Cards: Visa and Master cards are widely accepted in Italy.
4.) Travelers Checks: Although it is rare that you can pay directly with a travelers checks, most major banks will cash them for you. Be sure to bring your passport to the bank for identification purposes.
Should I open a bank account?
If you have a bank account with an international cash card (compatible to the "PLUS", "CIRRUS", or "VISA", you will have direct access to your account through the compatible ATM Bank booths, making a local bank account unnecessary. If you wish to open a bank account in Italy, you should consult directly with the bank of your choice, and your current bank.
Should I bring my computer?
Se prendete le lezioni di disegno, tranne disegno di gioielli, e' necessario portare il portatile per usare durante le lezioni e per fare i compiti. E' meglio se ci siano Illustrator o Photoshop installato, ma non e' necessario. Se non avete un portatile, può usare i computer della scuola.
Dentro la scuola, c'e' connessione internet wi-fi per gli studenti. Dentro l'alloggio, non c'e' linea di telefono per gli studenti o/e connessione internet. Nel centro di Firenze, ci sono tanti Internet Café.
Cosa posso fare nel tempo libero ?
Firenze offre infinite possibilità. E’ quasi impossibile finire di vedere tutti i monumenti ed i musei della città. Durante la mattina puoi ad esempio prendere un caffè o entrare in una delle tante pasticcerie, oppure sedere sulla riva dell’Arno a leggere un buon libro. Nei pomeriggi liberi puoi fare una passeggiata a Fiesole o fare shopping al mercato di San Lorenzo. La sera trovi un’infinita’ di ristoranti, locali, discoteche.
What is the weather like?
The weather in Florence is comparatively mild. The summers are quite warm and often sticky. The winter brings the cold wind from the North. What kind of clothes should I bring?
Comfortable warm clothes for the fall and winter, lighter clothes for the spring and a nice outfit or two for special occasions.
How much money will I need a week for daily life?
It depends on what you want to do. Habits vary enormously from student to student. If you do not include travel or leisure expenditures but only the very basic needs to survive you can budget a minimum of 120 euro per week.
Does Italy have the same voltage as the United States?
No, the voltage in Italy is different, and we advise you not to buy transformers because generally they do not work properly, and you run the risk of blowing the fuse. It is better to buy hairdryers and other small electric supplies locally.
